Bioline sponsors NEATFish accredited tournaments
(15/09/2009)
NEATFish welcomes Bioline, manufacturers of the worlds premiere biodegradable fishing line, who will provide prize packs to tournaments which obtain official accreditation under NEATFish. The prize packs, including spools of Bioline mainline as well as samples of Bioline leader, will be provided to tournament organisers upon completion or renewal of their official NEATFish accreditation.
Bioline uses medical technology to bring you a high performance biofilament fishing line that is completely biodegradable in the environment in less than five years. Bioline looks and feels like monofilament, but provides unique, controlled stretch, exceptional knot strength, along with outstanding UV and abrasion resistance. This UV resistance means Bioline only breaks down after extended periods due to microbial action in sediment, soil, compost and water. Once spooled on a reel, the line will retain 100% of its tensile strength for a period of 10 to 12 months, with no special handling required. However, should you break off a leader or length of line, it will be gone in less than five years, versus six hundred years for nylon and many, many more for braid and flurocarbon. Of course, landbased disposal in landfill is always recommended to protect marine life, in which case Bioline completely biodegrades in around 6 months.
Stored in its original packaging, Bioline has a five-year shelf life. Even the spools are biodegradable, and
the quality packaging contains a high percentage of recycled materials. Bioline is suitable for all main line applications where nylon monofilament is used in breaking strains of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20 lb. Heavier lines are also under development. Bioline is also an excellent leader material when used with nylon or superbraid mainlines. In fact, Bioline leader recently won the prestigious "Best Environmentally Friendly Product" award at the Australian Fishing Trades Association 2009 Tackle Trade Show. Bioline has also been endorsed by the Australian National Sportfishing Association as an example of a preferred leader material.
